West Basin offers a wide array of educational programs, contests and tours to help students in grades 3 – 12 learn about water and water conservation. West Basin also keeps in touch with educators and school administrators regarding West Basin education programs through the quarterly newsletter Waterworks.
Water Bottle Filling Station Grants
West Basin Municipal Water District’s Water Bottle Filling Station Program helps provide local students with access to safe and reliable tap water to refill personal, reusable bottles. West Basin grants are available – up to $2,000 per applicant – for the purchase of an indoor or outdoor filling station at public schools within our service area.
Water Recycling Facility Field Trips
You and our students can learn more about the sources of our precious Southern California water supply, the importance of water wise stewardship and about West Basin water conservation and sustainability programs that can benefit your students’ families. Water is Life Student Art Contest
West Basin’s “Water is Life” student art contest helps foster awareness of water conservation. This art challenge will inspire students to learn about our precious and limited water resources while thinking of creative ways to promote the contest theme “Water is Life.” The contest is open to 3rd – 12th grade students attending schools located in the West Basin service area. Solar Cup Boat Building Competition
Solar Cup is the world’s largest solar boat building and racing competition in the world! This innovative seven-month water education and environmentally sustainable technology program is funded by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. Teach and Test Program
West Basin is a proud sponsor of the Surfrider Foundation’s Teach and Test Program where student volunteers from four local high schools collect water samples and analyze the water quality from our South Bay beaches for one year.
A Drop in the Bucket Program
West Basin’s Board of Directors presents A Drop in the Bucket, offered in partnership with The Wildwoods Foundation, a free program for 3rd-8th grade teachers in the West Basin service area! A program instructor will virtually join your classroom, where students will participate in fun-filled lessons exploring Southern California’s water resources and learn about practical water conservation methods.
